Every resident of Kent can relate to the frustration that occurs when infrastructure lags behind housing developments. I experienced this acutely when we were left without water for many days around Christmas 2025. Our lives were upended during what should have been a joyful holiday season, a time to connect with friends and family. Unfortunately, the challenges don't end there.
Kent's roads, riddled with potholes, create hazardous conditions for drivers and pedestrians alike. Not only do they pose a safety risk, but they also contribute to increased vehicle maintenance costs and disrupted commutes.
Our healthcare system is under considerable strain, making it difficult to secure timely GP appointments. Hospitals are overcrowded, a testament to facilities not expanding to meet the growing population needs. This overcrowding can lead to delayed treatments and, in dire situations, deteriorating health outcomes.
Furthermore, our schools are bursting at the seams, struggling to accommodate an ever-increasing number of students. This overcrowding can compromise the quality of education and the individual attention each child receives, ultimately affecting their future potential.
The ongoing development of housing projects, without the necessary infrastructure support, exacerbates these issues. It's crucial that we put infrastructure first to ensure that residents of Kent have access to reliable utilities, safe roads, timely healthcare, and quality education.
We propose a comprehensive review and reallocation of funds towards infrastructure as a prerequisite before any new housing developments are approved. Additionally, increased investment in utilities, road maintenance, healthcare facilities, and school expansions must be prioritized to align with population growth projections.
Loss of Farmland is a great concern. Current world events demonstrate our need to be as self sufficient in food supplies as possible
